Chip Sealing being done on Meetinghouse Hill
Work begins Friday and Saturday, June 27th & 28th beginning with Meetinghouse Hill Rd and Joe English Rd
Chip sealing is set to begin next Friday and Saturday, June 27 & 28 beginning with Meetinghouse Hill Road and Joe English Road. There are four roads scheduled to be chip coated this year with the other two being McCurdy Road and Byam Road.
- The Highway Department is asking for your patience and understanding during this process as there will be crack sealing, one lane traffic and loose stones on the road for three to five days after the initial application and then the stones will be swept up. Please be aware of the workers along those roads.
- Chip sealing is not road repair but road preservation, used to preserve a road that is already in good condition by protecting the pavement from water. Chip sealing is the number one pavement preservation used in the United States and has been proven for decades, similar to painting your house or staining your deck to preserve the material underneath. Chip sealing involves applying a sticky emulsion first on the road followed by the chip seal material and then rolling to form a water resistant surface.
Every year when the Highway Department plans their annual budget, monies are set aside for road construction, road maintenance and road preservation. Maintenance and preservation are at a much less cost, while extending the life of a road and allowing much more time to pass before a road needs to be reclaimed and repaved.
